Kochs Barber Chairs

The Theo A Kochs Company from Chicago (why is it that so many barber chair manufacturers were based in Chicago?) has a long history of well-built vintage barber chairs. Nowadays, we have to say ‘vintage.’ Back then, selling barber chairs was a very good business.

It's difficult to find information on the Internet about the life of Theo Kochs. But if you google it, you will find hundreds of chairs for sale online. There's no doubt that once upon a time, there were Kochs chairs in many barber shops across the country. Other people have chair parts for sale. If you have a Koch Barber Chair needing repairs, you can get the part you need and do it yourself, or hire somebody to do the job for you. If you have a Kochs chair that you want to know more information about, or just want to show it to the world, check our forum.

  6. Good afternoon,
I have a Theo C Kochs barber chair that I imagine is 1950’s vintage. I have looked at many pictures of these chairs online and I haven’t seen one that looks exactly like the one I have.. The main difference is the base which is segmented evenly around the base [ 6 segments ]. Otherwise the chair looks very much like a video posted on Youtube of a beautifully restored red leather/vinyl chair. Mine is green – upholstry and enamel… Is that base a tell tale of the model/year of manufacture?

  9. I have a Koch Barber Chair patented 1910-1914. Looking for hydraulic pump arm or information on how to disassemble the one I have. Please help.

    • Hi Merl, I saw your question from April of 2012 and was wondering if you were successful in getting info on how to disassemble your hydraulic pump/cylinder. I’m starting restoration on a ~1903 Kochs hydraulic. If you could e-mail me with any info you may have collected on how to rebuild the cylinder/hydraulics I’d be very appreciative.
